The Hungarian Catering Industry Association (MVI) has published its 2024 statistical report on catering. The turnover of hospitality businesses was 2,672 billion HUF, which was 5.5% higher than the previous year in real terms.
The decline in the number of hospitality businesses slowed: at the end of 2024, there were 43,600 hospitality establishments in operation, compared to an annual decline of around 2,000, or an average of 5-6 businesses per day, which has recently fallen to 3-4 businesses per day. The number of people employed in tourism was 422,000, a third of whom worked in hospitality. The average gross salary of full-time employees was 386,000 HUF, 13.8% more than in the previous year, but still among the lowest in the national economy.
