The Italian Craftsmen’s Association (Confartigianato) has carried out a study on the attitudes of their small and medium-sized business members towards artificial intelligence. Of the 134,000 SMEs surveyed, 125,000 have already started to make some kind of transition to integrate AI into their activities. The biggest problem is that 246,000 of the 449,000 highly skilled workers needed to get the process off the ground are missing, i.e. 55% of the required number. The highest shortage is in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, where 67.8% of specialised staff are missing.
